 Anna Van Stralen uses painting to investigate the precarity of human beings in a changeable and sometimes hostile wide context. A key element to much of her work includes exploring the potential for domestic structural fabric to resist or leave traces behind when dismantled.

 Education:              

                             2018-present, PhD candidate, School of Creative Arts, University of Tasmania, Inveresk,  Launceston Australia      (approaching completion in February 2021)

2014 -Bachelor of Contemporary Art with Honours, First Class, School of Visual       and Performing arts, University of Tasmania, Australia.

             

Selected Awards:  

                             2021-  Finalist, Henry Joes Art Prize, Henry Jones Art Hobart, Tasmania.

    2019- Winner, Women’s Art Prize Tasmania, Bell Bay Aluminium Peoples’ Choice Award

                             2019- Finalist, Tasmanian Women’s Art Prize,  Touring Tasmania-wide, Australia

    2014 - Sawtooth Honours Award, University of Tasmania, Australia

                 2014 – Highly Recommended, Birchalls Tertiary Art Prize, Art award

                             Based in Launceston, displayed at NEW Gallery, University of

                             Tasmania, Australia.


Employment:        2016-present: Casual Lecturer and Tutor, School of Creative Art, Utas Inveresk,

                                           Launceston, Australia.

                            

                            

Residencies:        2018-  Jansz Women and Business Artist in Residence

                                           Residency situated in a Vinyard at Piper’s River, Northern Tasmania,

                                           Australia.

                 2017- CREATIVEaccomplice Artist in Residence, Darwin, Australia.

                             A three-week creative residency connecting with the Community of Darwin

                             And responding to the location’s unique arid ecology and sense of place.
