ARTIST STATEMENTS

Angela Casey

Casey’s images reside in glossy pools of beautiful darkness, quiet and introspective. In contrast, the presentation is reminiscent of a shiny black television screen, public and exposed. The works delve into the fragility of life and the certainty of death, using vehicles and metaphors of Memento Mori and Dutch Vanitas painting of the 17th century. “…to fear death in a novel, a short story, a film or an artwork is rapturous because of its distance from reality”. Prue Gibson, The Rapture of Death, 2010.

Dean Hohn

Nature with its various moods creates scenes that can vary from minute to minute. I draw inspiration from nature with its various shapes, colours, patterns and conditions. From these variables I will combine images that have beauty, are mysterious and invite the viewer to generate their own words that reflect what they are seeing before them. I create images that are varied from abstract to soft tranquil settings, hopefully creating something along the way that appeals to all audiences.

Jennifer Dickens

Looking glass self 2, 2014 is an ongoing body of work resulting from two residency at the Rosamond McCulloch Studio, Cite Internationale des Arts, Paris where I visually explored the premium perception of the French culture “brand”. The romanticism associated with “French” underpinned by prestige, tradition and authenticity has long had the ability to surpass our immediacy and provide a sense of added cultural value.

Kitty Taylor

In April 2014 I undertook a residency at Willow Court, New Norfolk, Tasmania.  It is the site of an old insane asylum. Here I was able to produce the beginnings of the works for 'Beyond the Lens'  The thematic narrative is a blend of dialogue between myself and model Lena Lindblad and site specific investigation.

Artwork from this exhibition is no longer available to purchase.
