DISCLOSURE

BEN MILLER   &   CHRIS FLOOD

Artist statement - ‘Disclosure’- Ben Miller

This series of works reveal explorations of the materials I employ and ideas from a multitude of hybrid influences, mostly to do with the natural and industrial landscapes.  The use of new and old materials investigates age- the age of the land and the age of the built environment. Perhaps this is also a metaphor for my own existence. When does new become old? When does young become old? What happens when new rust is put over old paint?  Why put an old canvas over new aluminium? When the leaves fall from the trees and a new season passes how can I embrace my age with grace? When does old become precious and when does it just stay as rubbish? It is much easier to tell when day becomes night – you can see the change of light. Perhaps that is why I paint during the middle of the night, during this period of transition – it places me in a physically comfortable and acceptable position of inbetweeness where I can disclose my thoughts with paint and pop rivets. BM

Artist statement -‘Disclosure’ - Chris Flood

Existence by its very nature produces traces within time, this is inevitable. Nothing ever ceases to exist. Every breath, every gesture, every life and every death leaves a mark indexed within a multi layered plethora of circumstance. All perceptive moments are secreted away in the detritus of minds and memories, construction and destruction, the material and the immaterial. That which time or choice has made secret can be exposed. Sometimes an answer is found; sometimes another question is asked with soft whispers or screamed loudly with reckless abandon. Listen closely, these works speak of the artists, they speak of existence, they also speak of you. CF
