ARTIST STATEMENTS
David Hamilton - These sculptures show my ongoing interest in the twist of line as an art object. Often the form is twisted and bound upon itself and is analogous with flexible linear elements such as thread or twisted fencing wire. Enlarging these elements brings them into focus, as though placed under a magnifying glass for closer scrutiny. The resulting sculptures often appear like a fragment or shard of some larger form.
Wayne Z Hudson - My work is based on traditional techniques and lost crafts by combining them with contemporary approaches. The work focuses on the space between Functionality (seating) and Sculptural forms, where I use metals and leathers as my medium. My intention is to extend the boundaries of soft and hard materials in a way to invite visual ambiguity, there- for highlighting the tactile and sensual properties that become inherent in the work.
Hugh McLachlan - My creative life has centred around complex 3 dimensional forms - mostly in the form of jewellery. This discipline and aesthetic has had an impact on my sculpture, a reduction process of simplifying the form is the way I work when I make a sculpture.
Ed King - Bone bridge, originated from the purchase of a 100 year old (Hopf) violin. The musical instrument was in pieces and needed to be rebuilt, the only missing part was the bridge. A Pottaroo skull found on a bushwalk was sourced for the missing part, and also inspired the title. The last Oil Tanker, began from sourcing three 1920’s broken Phonographs. The mechanism regulators suggested the breather valves of a Tanker. This sculpture was literally built from the top down and entertains ruminations of zero oil.
