  Towards the light

    MICHAEL WEITNAUER

"As a consequence of the COVID 19 lockdowns around Australia, I have focused my attention, over the past twelve months, on undertaking a number of field trips within Tasmania, as an opportunity to reacquaint myself with the inspiring landscape of this State. My attention, on these trips, was continually drawn towards the clarity and play of light in the landscape, particularly while hiking through wilderness forests. And for me, the best way to express this experience in paint has been through abstract representations which are presented in four of the paintings in this exhibition. The rest of the show is made up of images of places that I found particularly inspiring and specifically lent themselves toward the creation of strong compositions." MTW
