To Silence
DAVID LAKE
"For me there are several factors important in producing work: careful
preparation of canvas, harmony in composition, satisfactory drawing and balance
of colour; all are intended. However, by far the most important is the seeking
of silence. Hearing the sound of brush on canvas is a constant goal and silence
my subject for each work. An elusive state to enter, one full of that which is
rich and is greatly enjoyed. If some of this experience is carried to the
viewer, it is the transfer of beauty, a substance arising beyond the
practitioner and the potential for all ‘making’". D.L.
